CLAS TEAMS, USPS, and OPS staff,
It has come to my attention that a portion of yesterday’s memo to CLAS staff has been misinterpreted by some to imply that all staff employees must now work from a remote location or that they have a right to work from a remote location. I apologize for any confusion and offer the following clarification.
The passage in question states that the college encourages employees who can work remotely to do so. Employees can work remotely if their circumstances satisfy the six criteria listed on the Alternate Work Location Agreement, as determined by supervisor (defined as a department chair or center director for staff in academic units), and after the employees, supervisors, and dean’s office agree on a plan as specified in the agreement.
While the college will do all it can to help satisfy the technical requirements for appropriate computer equipment, internet access and other needs, for some that will not be possible. In other cases, chairs and directors may not be able to approve transfer of particular job duties and responsibilities to a remote location. The campus and its buildings remain open for business.
I will also mention that if your unit’s main office is not occupied due to staff work site relocation, staff and supervisors must provide a prominent sign with contact phone number(s), email addresses, a campus address for package and/or mail delivery, and any other relevant information for the unit. The sign must not state that the unit is “closed” but rather should state the hours it is open.
Thanks for your patience and understanding as we adjust to rapidly changing conditions and guidance from UF and the state.
Best,
David E. Richardson
