This talk explores the 1990s renaissance of veteran Black bands, such as Lakeside, Parliament-Funkadelic and Zapp, who had been prominent in Black popular music more than a decade earlier. Specifically, we will discuss the institutions, technologies, cultural politics and entrepreneurial activities that moved Black bands into a position to re-emerge as keepers of the ‘old school.’
