Virtual Ethics Café on Reparations
November 17, 2020 at 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Reparations have been debated for decades, as African Americans demand some form of compensation for systemic racism, historical trauma and racialized violence. At this ethics café, we will discuss the ethical issues raised by the question of reparations for Black descendants of enslaved people in the U.S. In particular, we will ask how we, as a society, cope with and understand the racial injustices of the past.
The café will be moderated by Dr. Rachel Grant, an assistant professor in the College of Journalism and Communications. It is free and open to all UF students.
This event is organized by the Mellon Intersections Group on Ethics in the Public Sphere, with additional support from the UF Center for Humanities and the Public Sphere; the UF George A. Smathers Libraries; and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
