The Ottoman Greeks of the United States Project (OGUS) is a multifaceted interdisciplinary research project at the University of Florida. OGUS was established in 2015 with the support of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program. Its main goal is to raise the public’s awareness and to inspire scholarly research about the experiences of Ottoman Greek immigrants and refugees in the United States. To achieve this goal, the project is collecting immigration data from the Ellis Island ship-manifest archive and interviewing descendants of immigrants in the U.S. from regions of the former Ottoman Empire spanning from southeast Europe to Turkey to Syria.

Speaker: George Topalidis, Ph.D. Candidate, Sociology and Criminology & Law

Moderator: Chrysostomos Kostopoulos, UF CES and Classics
