The Influence of Social Media on Tourism

April 5, 2022 at 12:50 pm

Tuesday, April 05, 2022

12:50 p.m.

Turlington Hall, Room 3310

Over the past decade, social media has gained momentum and has been widely used for marketing and strategy purposes. The power of social media is unprecedented in creating space for conversations, engaging with the audience and sharing information – regardless of people’s backgrounds. In the travel and hospitality industry, social media platforms have been helping both travelers and destinations. During the talk, you can learn about the impact of social media on the tourism industry through two research projects utilizing the data on Instagram and TripAdvisor. The research focuses on UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Poland as well as international travel influencers. Katarzyna Emin, a graduate student at UF, will discuss her research and the possibilities of using the information hidden in social media platforms. Lunch provided.

This event is part of UF’s Center for European Studies’ Lunchtime Symposium.
