Join us for a celebration of Georges Perec, writer and crossword puzzle maker (1936-1982). Perec, Je me souviens/Je me souviens de Perec dedicates an entire day to a consideration of Perec and his legacy, meditating on the traces of his influence that endure through works in France and throughout the world.

Our reflections may interrogate his concept of the “infraordinary” and his use of games, memory, immigration and travels
in novels, scripts and essays such as Les Choses, Je me souviens,
J’aime/je n’aime pas, Quel petit vélo chromé au fond de la cour,
Espèces d’espaces, Récits d’Ellis Island and L’Homme qui dort.
We’ll see how his distinctive voice lives on in the films, theatrical
readings, visual arts, and photography of others.

Recepton to follow.

Event Speakers:

  • Hermes Salceda (U. Vigo, Spain)/Perec dans ses traductions ibériques.
  • Alison James (U. Chicago)/Perec Across the Disciplines
  • Danielle Constantin (U. Toronto)/La Vie mode d’emploi de Georges Perec : traces, invention, écriture.
