Join us for a conversation with Naomi Seidman about the 93 — a group of girls from the Bais Yaakov school in the Kraków Ghetto that reportedly committed suicide rather than be taken as prostitutes by the Nazis. The story made the New York Times in January 1943 and was the occasion of a worldwide outpouring of grief. Scholars have rejected the report as fiction, but it remains a pillar of Orthodox Holocaust memory.

Featured Speaker:

Naomi Seidman is the Chancellor Jackman Professor in the Arts at the University of Toronto. She is the author of five books, including Faithful Renderings: Jewish-Christian Difference and the Politics of Translation (2006); The Marriage Plot, or How Jews Fell in Love with Love, and with Literature (2016); and A Revolution in the Name of Tradition: Sarah Schenirer and Bais Yaakov (2019)
