America’s Digital Disparity is Too Great to Tolerate. What Will We Do?
September 9, 2021 at 11:45 am - 1:00 pm
The U.S. has spent billions of dollars to close the gap between the broadband haves and have nots, yet significant disparities in internet connectivity remain. What will it take for the nation to see actual results?
The Digital Markets Initiative of the Public Utility Research Center and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service are pleased to welcome in-person the Hon. Mignon Clyburn, former commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. She will join us for a timely discussion about making equitable broadband access a reality for Americans.
Congress and the Biden administration are debating spending up to $65 billion to boost broadband internet, especially in low-income and rural communities. Ms. Clyburn will challenge the UF community to learn more about the issues involved in broadband access disparity and become further engaged in the policy debate.
All University of Florida students, faculty and staff, and members of the local community, are invited to attend this free event. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch will be provided to attendees at no charge, however, seating is limited. A link will be provided to remote attendees via email before the program begins.
