Plains Indians and Indian Wars
December 4, 2020 at 5:00 pm
The American Indian and Indigenous Studies (AIIS) Program is pleased to announce a colloquium on Friday, 4 December at 5:00 EST. Marvin Dawes, Sr. will discuss the “Plains Indians and Indian Wars.”
As 2021 marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn, Dawes will provide an overview — from a Native American perspective — of the events that shaped the 19th Century and had profound implications for the Plains Indians.
Speaker: Marvin Dawes, Sr.
Marvin Dawes, Sr. is a Crow Tribal Historian in Montana with extensive knowledge of governmental policy of the 1800s that led to various battles between Native Americans and the U.S. Army that culminated in the stunning victory of the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne Tribes at the Battle of Little Bighorn (also known as Custer’s Last Stand) over the Seventh Calvary led by George Armstrong Custer.
