Policing the Politicians: Law, Politics, and Democracy in Classical Athens

UF’s Center for Greek Studies will present the timely lecture, “Policing the Politicians: Law, Politics, and Democracy in Classical Athens” by distinguished British scholar Chris Carey, Emeritus Professor of Greek at University College London on Monday, March 9 at 5 pm.

The lecture will conclude at 6 pm and then be followed by a reception in the Keene Faculty Center.

About the Speaker

Chris Carey is one of the world leading experts on the Athenian democracy, law and politics and one of the most distinguished academics of our times in Classical Studies.

He began his career in Cambridge (Jesus College) and has taught in top Colleges in the UK since: he has served in St Andrews (1977-1991), in Royal Holloway, University of London (1991-2003), and took up the Chair of Creek at University College London in 2003 and served the College until his retirement. He has substantially written on Athenian democracy, law and politics; Greek drama, and Greek Lyric Poetry. His work has shaped research and has been enormously influential in all three areas of his research activity.
